Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam has written to Maharashtra Housing Minister Eknath Shinde and the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) chief, alleging that some builders in SRA projects are implementing 'Housing Jihad' through their projects and trying to change the demography of certain areas.

Nirupam, who quit the Congress party last year ahead of Lok Sabha elections, after the grand old party expelled him from the party in a disciplinary action, alleged that these builders are trying to fit in the maximum number of Muslim people in their projects by rejecting applications of Hindu people in these SRA projects, terming them ineligible for SRA flats or shops, as reported by news agency ANI.

Nirupam alleged that through this 'Housing Jihad', Muslim builders are trying to change the demography of Mumbai and increase the concentration of the Muslim population through SRA Projects.

Nirupam, who faced defeat at the hand of the Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate from the Dindoshi seat in the Maharashtra Assembly elections last year, blamed the Muslim community for his rout. In an X post on Sunday, February 16, Nirupam stated, "The people of Pathanwadi voted overwhelmingly for UBT’s candidate. I lost despite almost winning, and it was due to the consolidated Muslim votes of Pathanwadi."

"Now, as the problems there are worsening, people are tagging me instead of their MLA. Does this prove that the MLA of Pathanwadi is incompetent?" he added.
