The Bharatiya Janata Party registered an impressive victory in Gujarat local body elections held on February 16, 2025, continuing its dominance in the state.
According to reports, the saffron party won in the Junagadh Municipal Corporation (JMC) as well as 60 out of 68 municipalities. The party also won Gandhinagar, Kapadvanj, and Kathlal taluka Panchayats.
BJP's victory is significant as it snatched away 15 municipalities from the Congress. The Congress party performed poorly and was able to win only one municipality, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) won two municipalities.
It was the first local body election in Gujarat after the implementation of 27% quota for OBCs.
After the results were almost declared, BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya took to X and wrote, "In the recently concluded local body elections in Gujarat, BJP has won:
Corporations 1/1
Municipalities 65/68
Taluka Panchayat 3/3
The dominance continues..."

The performance of BJP in the local body elections shows the dominance of the party. It may cause concern for the opposition party that has failed to form a government in the state in the last 30 years.
