Mumbai: Starting April 1, motorists in Maharashtra will be required to pay tolls via Fast Tag or eTag, or face a double charge, according to the state government's recent announcement.

The directive, issued on Friday, stipulates that toll collection centers for roads developed under public-private partnerships will impose double the toll fee for motorists choosing any method other than Fast Tag or e-Tag.

At present, Fast Tag-based toll payments are only mandatory on national highways, while state highway tolls can be paid using alternative methods such as cash, smart cards, PoS systems, credit/debit cards, or QR codes.
