A dedicated library exclusively for children has been set up at the family court in Belapur. The library an initiative by an NGO Global Care Foundation, is meant to be for the children of the litigants
The NGO founded in 2017 works with the mission to focus on Crime Prevention in Society. The foundation has been actively working in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune, and Nashik, and their first initiative was the establishment of a library at the Children Observation Home, Dongri, where one did not previously exist.
The library will be operational during the court hours . "Family court proceedings often stretch throughout the day, which can lead to children becoming restless or cranky. Recognizing this challenge, the Children’s Room was designed to offer children a creative and engaging environment, allowing them to spend their time constructively while their parents are in court,"said Abid Ahmed Kundalam (Founder and Managing Trustee) of the organisation.
The library is envisioned to provide an opportunity for both parents and children to spend quality time together through the games and books available. The library features a range of storybooks, biographies of famous personalities, novels, books on parenting, colouring books, encyclopaedias, and science books. Additionally, the library is also stocked with games for children ranging from ages 2 to 18, as well as drawing and colouring books, colour pencils, and sketch pens to encourage creative expression.
The library operational from February 1 onwards is situated on the sixth floor of the court building. " By creating this child-friendly space in the Family Court, the Foundation hopes to alleviate the stress often experienced by children during lengthy legal proceedings and provide an enriching environment where both parents and children can engage in educational activities together, " adds Kundalam.
