Suburban train services on both the Central and Western railway lines experienced disruptions on Tuesday due to separate technical issues, leaving commuters facing delays and significant inconvenience.
Central Railway Disruption
At around 4:55 am, a technical fault in the signalling system near Mumbra on the south-bound slow track between Diva and Mumbra stations in Thane district led to delays of 15-20 minutes on the Central Railway’s main line. The issue, which affected trains running between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in south Mumbai and Kasara in Thane, as well as services connecting to Khopoli and Karjat in Raigad district.
A Central Railway official said that the problem was resolved by approximately 6 am, within an hour of its first report. However, passengers claimed that the early morning disruption had caused them considerable inconvenience.
Western Railway Glitch
In the evening, suburban services on the Western line were also disrupted following a technical glitch in the train management system at Borivali station. Divisional Railway Manager of Western Railway Mumbai Central Division posted an update on social media platform X, stating: "Dear passenger, due to a technical failure at Borivali station, hence UP & Down train are running late. Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted."
According to an official of WR, the issue that led to train bunching on the line was resolved within 30 minutes, and services returned to normal by 6 pm.
