Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Former constable of the Transport Department Saurabh Sharma has been finally sent to jail after 46 days of raids conducted on his residential premises by the Special Police Establishment (SPE) of Lokayukta. Many officials of the department, who ripped off the Transport Department in collusion with Sharma, heaved a sigh of relief after his going to jail.

Sharma’s cohorts, Sharad Jaiswal and Chetan Singh Gaur, were also sent to jail under judicial custody. According to sources, Sharma, Chetan and Sharad kept mum over the scam in the Transport Department. The trio remained tight-lipped about the extortions at check posts. Now that Sharma and his accomplices have been jailed, many people have set their eyes on ED and the Income-tax Department.

The SPE of Lokayukta could not worm out any information from Sharma about the scam going on in the Transport Department for a long time. Sharma did not say anything about his role in extortions at the check posts. During his seven-day remand, the SPE could not extract information about 52 kg gold and Rs 11 crore found in a car. From where the car came and where it was destined to were kept under a veil of secrecy. The SPE also failed to bring to light how Sharma, constable in the Transport Department, could set up such a huge empire.

Sharma episode remains mystery

From raids on Saurabh Sharma’s residential premises to his going to jail lingers as an enigma. Sharma and his wife had fled from their house three days before the SPE of Lokayukta conducted raids on his residential premises.  After he ran away from his house, the SPE said that he had been in Dubai.  Following his escape, 52kd gold and Rs 11 crore were found in a car. And then, I-T and ED appeared on the scene. ED sleuths raided several places which SPE had left. The SPE of Lokayukta did not visit those places on which ED conducted raids.

Sharma suddenly reached the court to surrender, but before he could do that, the SPE had taken him into custody in filmy style.   He was taken on police remand on the promise that he would be provided with royal treatment. Afterwards, he is taken in judicial remand and sent to jail, but all the incidents, which hogged the limelight, after the raids remain unanswered.
