Mumbai: The Airport Customs officials have arrested four persons, including a private airport staff for allegedly smuggling gold worth Rs 2.21 crore. The gold was smuggled by three passengers from Dubai.

According to the Customs sources, on Monday night, on the basis of profiling, Customs officers at CSMI Airport, Mumbai, intercepted three passengers arriving from Dubai to Mumbai and 01 private airport staff working at Departure Hall, CSMI Airport Mumbai and recovered 24 KT gold dust in wax having weight 2.830 Kg, provisionally valued at Rs 2.21 crore.

"The officers discovered that the passengers had concealed the gold in polythene bags, which were then placed inside a store-branded jute bag hanging in the store. Subsequently, the same bag was picked up by private airport staff working at that store. Four individuals were arrested under the Customs Act," said a Customs official.
