In order to maintain law and order during the Shiv Jayanti at Fort Shivneri in Junnar Tehsil, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has issued orders for one-way traffic on certain routes in Junnar city and its vicinity from 8 am on February 18 to midnight on February 20, 2025.

Shiv Jayanti is celebrated with great fervour across Maharashtra. Born in 1630, Shivaji Maharaj fought the reigning kings of his time, including the Mughals, to carve out his kingdom, which later became one of the most powerful empires. He is praised not only for his military skills but also for his administrative acumen. Thousands of his followers flock to Shivneri Fort on his birth anniversary on February 19, as he was born at the fort.

As per this order, traffic coming from Narayangaon towards Junnar will proceed to Shivneri Fort via Ghodegaon Phata-Khanapur College-Dhamankhel route to the Tathed parking lot. Vehicles parked at the Tathed parking lot will proceed back via Vadaj-Savargaon-Warulwadi-Narayangaon-Ghodegaon.

Vehicles coming to Shivneri via Ganeshkhind-Bankaphata-Otur will park at the parking lot located at Mundhe Secondary School and the surrounding area. They will again proceed via Kalyan-Ahilyanagar-Nashik, Aptale-Somatwadi Tal. The order also states that vehicles coming from Junnar will take a circular route from in front of Hotel Shivba to the Tathed parking lot and then return via Vadaj.

Preparations underway for Shiv Jayanti

Meanwhile, ahead of the upcoming Shiv Jayanti celebrations, Dudi stressed the need to provide all necessary facilities, such as adequate drinking water, medical treatment, and medicines, to the followers of Shivaji Maharaj who will be attending the festival in the district. He directed all concerned agencies to coordinate effectively to ensure the success of the Shiv Jayanti event.

Dudi made these remarks during a recent review meeting held at the District Collector's Office. The Collector urged that all departments should work together to ensure the festival is celebrated with the usual enthusiasm. He highlighted the importance of ensuring the cleanliness of forts like Shivneri, Rajgad, and Purandar and providing proper sanitation facilities for the large number of followers expected. Dudi further advised that drinking water should be tested twice to ensure its quality, and the number of toilets should be increased based on last year’s attendance estimates. He also requested the Health Department to stock up on ample medicines and ORS packets at the health booths.

Additionally, Dudi asked the Archaeological Department to handle the cleaning of the forts, the Municipal Council to supply clean water, and the State Transport Corporation to provide sufficient bus services.
