Kolkata: After a law college in Kolkata, Saraswati puja was performed in Sitananda College in Nandigram under police protection on Monday.
Violence started after the students wing of Trinamool Congress (TMC) clashed with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad clashed against each other during the puja and blamed each other for creating chaos before the puja.
Police had to visit the college to stop the violence and under their vigil the puja was performed.
Two priests were seen performing the puja together. The second priest was Bappaditya Garg, who is a local TMC leader.
The students of the college mentioned that they are ‘ashamed’ that such a thing happened during the puja for the first time.
However, the college administration said that the police were called to protect the valuables of the college and not due to the clash.
RAF along with police was seen deployed at Daspoldanga Primary school in Haringhata in Nadia during performing Saraswati Puja.
Maharshita Biswas, BDO of Haringhata who visited the school during the puja said that there was an issue which got resolved and she is just visiting all the schools.
With strict protection of police and RAF the puja was performed inside the school.
The parents of the students were seen expressing their concern over such a situation where the students cannot enjoy Saraswati Puja freely.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari taking to social media posted a video where a person was seen threatening the headmaster of the school and was asking him not to allow Saraswati Puja inside the school.
Posting the video Adhikari mentioned that the one who was threatening the headmaster is local TMC leader Alimuddin Mondal.
In Bolpur in Birbhum district Saraswati Puja was stopped at a government school and following intervention of parents of the students the puja was performed outside the gate of the school premises.
Slamming the incidents, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president and MoS Sukanata Majumdar said that the situation of West Bengal is gradually becoming like Bangladesh.
“I would like to congratulate Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee first as she always wanted to convert West Bengal into West Bangladesh. She is successful now. Army gets deployed in Bangladesh while celebrating Hindu festivals and now police are being deployed at various places in Bengal to perform Saraswati Puja,” said Majumdar.
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) Mayor Firhad Hakim said that Saraswati Puja is not just a puja but ‘emotion’ of Bengal.
“Some groups have purposely tried to create tension at various places. Saraswati Puja happens cutting across religious lines in Bengal. Its emotion,” mentioned Hakim.
Notably, after RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, now the ‘We want justice’ slogan was heard amid Saraswati Puja celebration on Sunday in Jogesh Chandra law college in south Kolkata after alleged outsider Shabbir Ali threatened to prevent the celebration. State Education Minister Bratya Basu and Kolkata (South) MP Mala Roy had to visit the college.
Following a complaint from law college students that the outsiders had taken control of their preparations, Calcutta High Court earlier had ordered police to monitor Saraswati Puja of this college and also instructed videography of the entire puja.
Police posting was seen even on Monday and will be at place till the immersion of the idol.
