An IT professional was killed in Kharghar on Sunday night over a road rage of overtaking issue. As per the witnesses, the incident reportedly happened after a minor dispute of overtaking. Following the assault, Sharma manager to reach police station before he collapsed.
According to police, two men suspected to be in early 20s on a two wheeler, attacked Shivkumar Roshanlal Sharma (45) with their helmet during an altercation regarding overtaking of the motorcycle. According to police, the accused fled after after the incident.
Sharma, a resident of Kharghar was an IT professional who worked as Project Manager with NuSummit Technology in Vashi. On Sunday night, Sharma was returning home from Vashi on his motorcycle at around 8.30 pm. After he reached the road between Belpada and Utsav Chowk, the altercation happened. "We do not yet have a clarity on how the flight started. The witnesses could only understand that the fight was about overtaking," assistant police inspector Parag Londhe from Kharghar police station said.
During the fight, one of the accused started assaulting Sharma with the helmet and gave multiple blows on the head. "There were no external injuries. After the assault, Sharma rode his bike for close to a kilometre to reach Kharghar police station. At the police station, he told that he was assaulted and then he suddenly collapsed. We took him to hospital but was declared dead on arrival," officer added.
A bystander recorded the attack on Sharma and handed over the video footage to the Kharghar police. Based on the video evidence, the police have registered a murder case against both accused and have launched a search operation to apprehend them.
Sharma stayed alone in Kharghar as his marriage was in dispute. "He has four sisters, all married and stayed in Panvel and Vashi area. His parents aren't alive. He resided at Swapnapurti building at sector 36," senior police inspector Deepak Surve said.
