In the Bandra Terminus rape case, Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Bandra has remanded the accused in police custody until February 8. The police are investigating whether the accused has a prior criminal record and whether he has provided his real name. He was apprehended after officers examined CCTV footage from Bandra East. Meanwhile, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable has been suspended for negligence and failing to monitor the platform.

Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Railway Police, stated, "The victim was with a male relative on the platform. A train was stationed at Bandra Terminus with no passengers on board. The crime took place in an empty compartment and did the crime. We filed the case immediately, and the police arrested the accused within an hour and a half. The arrest was made with the help of CCTV footage and technical support. Further investigation is ongoing."

A 54-year-old woman was allegedly raped inside the guard compartment of an empty Udhana Express at Bandra Terminus in the early hours of February 2. The accused was later arrested by a joint team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP), Bandra. He was then handed over to the Bandra Government Railway Police (GRP) for further action. A police source stated that the accused is around 25 years old and does porter-type work. According to a police source, the accused identified himself as Rahul Shaikh, but the police suspect he may be lying about his name and are investigating his true identity. He subsists mostly on the footpaths of Bandra.

According to preliminary reports, the incident was reported around 4:00 AM when the victim and her a male relative approached RPF personnel at the concourse area. They informed the officers that the woman had been assaulted in the guard compartment of an empty train, the Bandra Terminus–Udhana Express (09055/56), which was stationed at Platform 6.

Following the complaint, RPF personnel, along with GRP officers, immediately launched a search operation and located the accused inside the train. He was then taken into custody by the GRP, Bandra, while the victim was sent for a medical examination.

Initial findings indicate that the victim and her relative arrived in Mumbai on the Dehradun Express, which reached Bandra Terminus at 10:30 PM on February 1. As they had no accommodation, they decided to stay at the platform overnight and moved towards Platforms 6 and 7 at 10:39 PM.

At approximately 1:49 AM, CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts suggest that the accused approached the victim and coerced her into the guard compartment. The woman, who offered weak resistance, was taken inside while her relative was asleep on the platform. The platform was nearly empty at the time. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused allegedly committed the crime.

The Bandra railway police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 64(1) (punishment for rape), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 303(2) (theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The victim owns a grocery shop in her village and had come to Mumbai with her son-in-law from Dehradun for work.
