Abhishek Sharma had the finest moment of his young career at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday but the new Indian batting sensation attributed his success to the process that he follows.

The Amritsar-born batter felt an innings of this magnitude was rare and when they happen it clicks in a big way.

"I think obviously, if you ask anyone these kind of matches happen rarely in life and when they do happen they work for you in a big way. I would say it is all because of the effort I have put in the practice. The backing that I got from the coaches when the ball wasn't coming onto the bat or when I was not able to deliver. I think all these things help for you to have a day like this."

The 24-year-old didn't have a concrete answer when asked to pick his favourite six among the 13 that he hoisted on Sunday.

"I think I don't remember even half of the sixes that I have scored. I feel I have used the pace of the bowlers be it over covers or even sixes that I scored off Adil Rashid was something I enjoyed. My practice is also in such a way that I simulate match scenarios by preparing for the opposition bowlers by requesting the net bowlers or my own team-mates to bowl in such a fashion."

Sharma also revealed that he had no prior plan of playing a long-innings.

"Thought of playing long-innings: No, to be honest, I did not have any such plans of playing till the end. I just watch each ball and react to it accordingly. Luckily, when I was in the 80s and 90s, Surya paaji (Suryakumar Yadav) said you have worked hard to play your shots, now you can take some time and play two-three balls. Obviously, when the captain is with you, then I felt yaar ok, then I can take some time. Even Hardik paaji later told me that wickets are falling around you, so play according to the situation. Axar paaji also gave me sound advice and I felt taking the advice of these senior India players helped me ultimately play the long innings."

The Punjab lad also felt the dreams of his fellow young India team-mates was all coming true.

"With regard to Jaiswal, Gill and myself, we three have played together at the under-16 level and I feel it has always been a dream for us to represent India. With regard to my celebration, my mother and my sister are here for the match, so I felt when your family is here for an occasion such as this, it makes you feel proud and happy. To share such a special occasion with them makes me feel blessed and grateful," he added.

Talking about his mentor legendary India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh's influence on him, Sharma was effusive in his praise.

"Yuvi paaji was the one who put all these things in my mind. He was the one who believed in me first and obviously when someone like Yuvraj Singh tells you that you are going to play for the country and win the games. Then you believe you can achieve it. They have played a major role in my cricketing career and I think in the future also it will be like that. And as I've said earlier it is all because of him (Yuvraj) and the way he has treated me. He is always there for me and I always talk to him after every game and he is the one guy I always listen to. I think he knows better than me and I believe that," Sharma stated.
