Falling from grace

An IAS officer’s transfer from a corporation has surprised many in the corridors of power. The officer had been very close to the higher-ups in the government for a long time. Although he is a junior officer, he was given the reins of a big corporation soon after the government formation. Thus, nobody is able to understand the reasons for his transfer to the loop line. It was expected that the Sahib would be sent to an important department after being shifted from the corporation, but he has been handed over such a department where there is hardly any work. The head of the state got angry with him because of his activities. There were complaints about his handling of public welfare issues. He almost brought the corporation, considered important to the government, to ruins besides the tussle between him and the minister of the department tainted the government’s image. Ergo the officer has been completely sidelined. It is heard that he is trying to go to some district.

Plum posting

The efforts of an IAS officer have finally brought some results: he had been trying to become the collector of a district even before the beginning of the Lok Sabha election. When he was making efforts for collectorship, he met several powerful people, and even offered carrots to them, but instead of giving him the position he yearned for, he was shifted to such a place as he could not easily get rid of. Nevertheless, the Sahib’s desires were not fulfilled the way he wanted them to happen. The Sahib wanted posting in any district in the Malwa region, but he was happy after getting the collectorship of a district. Similarly, a secretary-rank officer is still out of favour. As far as posting goes, he has the same issue as his counterpart had. He, too, offered sweetener for a plum posting. His offering carrots initially worked, but because of political pressure, his transfer was cancelled. He has been trying to get an important department since then.

Eye on department

A few officers have set their eyes on an important department. After the transfer of a senior officer, the department has been functioning under an in-charge officer for over two months. According to a recently released transfer list of officers, nobody has been sent to the department. The names of three officers are discussed for posting to this place. For posting an officer in the department, the government is mulling over the name of a Principal Secretary (PS) who once headed it. There are plans to bring this officer back to the mainstream administration, so he may be transferred to the department concerned. Apart from this officer, a PS, holding an important position, may be shifted to the department. There are speculations about the PS’s posting because he has been working in a department for a long time. Still, there is another PS who is trying to join the department. Longing for a plum posting, the PS has set his eyes on two departments, and both are concerned with infrastructure.

Trio adjusted

Three officers have been adjusted: so, says a recent transfer list. Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) had wished to retire from Mantralaya. The matter reached the head of the state. Because of his calmness and seniority, he has been given an important department and sent back to Mantralaya according to his desires. His posting to the department has made another ACS-rank officer happy, for the officer had not been keen on joining the place where his colleague was transferred. Another officer, whose posting in a place in Delhi, scared many people, has been sent back to the state. But he has been transferred to a department from where he can go to Delhi to meet his better half, and he has been given an assignment, so that he may keep the government bungalow in Bhopal intact. The transfer list has made a Principal Secretary-rank officer very happy, because he has been able to return to the state capital. This PS had been requesting for his transfer to the state capital for a long time.

Extortionist collectors

The collectors of three districts have been defamed. Because they are involved in extortions, the employees are in trouble. One of them kicks up a fuss every now and then. About this collector, it is said that he has been transferred to the district because of his clout. A volley of complaints about this collector has been received, but his not being transferred indicates that he has solid links. Similarly, the collector of another district has created a lot of terror. About this Sahib, it is said that the people in the district where he is posted are facing problems. There are reports that some politicians have complained about this officer. The third collector was about to be transferred, but luck has saved him. The government planned to transfer this officer, but it was not done fearing the anger of a politician, but the axe may fall on him any day.

Secrets in diary

A diary of a man found during I-T raids on his residential premises has cornered the limelight. The documents, connected to this man and found outside the state capital, contain the names of many officers, and most of them are men in uniform. A huge amount has not been shown against their names in the documents. It is heard that the amount written against their names is in thousands and somewhere it is from rupees one lakh to ten lakh. In the statements that the man submitted to the I-T Department he has made certain revelations about the money. The person has told the probe agency that because he deals in land, he has received the money in the form of brokerage from those for whom he has arranged plots. Now, the Income-Tax Department is trying to find whether the officials purchased land in their names or they are Benami properties. If notices are served on these officers, there will be a storm across the state.
