Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A young man from Bhopal's Aishabgh area attempted suicide by consuming poison on Saturday night, allegedly due to fear of police action. His family claims that the police were planning a false case against him, forcing him to take this extreme step.

According to police sources, Farhan Abbas, a known offender in the area, was arrested on Tuesday with over 100 grams of drugs and sent to jail. However, police could not gather details on where he sourced the drugs from or to whom he sold them. Following his arrest, his brother Ali Abbas allegedly consumed poison to put pressure on the authorities. He is currently receiving treatment at Hamidia Hospital.

Ali Abbas’ sister, Reshma, has accused the police of framing her brother. She claims that after Farhan’s arrest, the police started looking for Ali. The family had earlier opposed a fabricated case and even leaked recordings that allegedly proved Farhan operated illegal gambling under police protection.

As per Reshma, Farhan was asked to increase his weekly payment to the police from ₹15,000 but refused, stating he would quit gambling instead. This, she claims, led to his arrest and subsequent police pressure on Ali Abbas, which pushed him to attempt suicide. Police have taken cognizance of the audio and have launched an investigation into the matter.
