Agni Chopra, son of renowned filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, was overjoyed after receiving an award from his idol, Indian captain Rohit Sharma.

On Saturday, Agni was honored at BCCI’s Naman Awards for being the top run-scorer in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group. He had an outstanding domestic season in 2023-24, scoring 939 runs at an impressive average of nearly 80.

After receiving the award, Agni expressed his excitement, saying, "It meant a lot to receive this award from Rohit bhai, who is also from Mumbai and whom I have idolized for many years.

Who is Agni Chopra?

Born on November 4, 1998, Agni Chopra is the son of filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and renowned film journalist Anupama Chopra. The 25-year-old cricketer began his career in Mumbai, playing for minor teams, before moving to Mizoram, where he eventually made his debut for the state team.

Agni also played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this season and was the only Mizoram batsman to score over 200 runs in the tournament. In seven games, the left-hander amassed 234 runs at a strike rate of 150.96, including two half-centuries.

His first-class debut was nothing short of spectacular. In his maiden innings, he smashed 166 off 179 balls against Sikkim, while no other batsman managed more than 20 runs. Mizoram was bowled out for 214 in that match. In the second innings, Agni fought hard again, scoring 92, but Sikkim eventually won.
