The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) for the welfare of the elderly has taken a significant step by establishing a senior citizen care center. The facility, designed to offer temporary accommodation and care for elderly individuals facing difficulties for 15–20 days, provides much-needed support to those who may not have immediate family assistance.

MLA  Mandatai Mhatre, who played a key role in the conceptualization and realization of this initiative, expressed her delight at the center’s inauguration. The care center, located near Karave Lake in Sector 28, Seawoods, Nerul, was formally introduced during a senior citizens' gathering organized by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s Social Development Department.  “ The Senior Citizen Care Center stands as a testament to the city’s dedication to providing dignity, comfort, and care for its aging population, offering them a safe haven in times of need,” said Mhatre.

The event saw the participation of key dignitaries, including Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of the Social Development Department M Kisanrao Palande, Maharashtra Senior Citizens Federation President Annasaheb Tekale, Mumbai–Navi Mumbai Regional Division President Suresh Pote, and Belapur Division Assistant Commissioner Dr. Amol Palve.

Speaking at the event, Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar highlighted the importance of such a facility, stating that emotional support, human connection, and social interaction are crucial for senior citizens.  “Beyond infrastructure development, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has been proactive in social welfare initiatives, ensuring that senior citizens have access to safe, supportive environments,” Said Pawar. He further  emphasized the importance of planning for the growing elderly population and ensuring that such care centers become an integral part of community support systems.
