Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Sikhs living in Kashmir have their own problems.

Owing to their appearance, they are easily distinguished and targeted during the time of turmoil. They also face problems like lack of adequate employment opportunities.

However, Kashmir also has brotherhood. It is Muslims who have been saving Sikhs living in Kashmir since the time of Guru Nanak Dev or say for past 500 years.

These are the view of Bhupinder Singh Bali who is author of Book, Those Who Stayed – The Sikhs of Kashmir. He was in the city to attend Bhopal Literature and Art Festival 2025 and held discussion on his book at the event.

Interacting with Free Press, he said though investment window had been opened for everyone in Kashmir, people avoid investment due to insecurity. Normally, Kashmiri Muslims are painted as anti- India but not all of them are against the nation.

Rather only a section of Muslims chants slogan of Azadi, he said. Many Muslims take part in protest seeking Azadi as they fear backlash if they don’t do it. Kashmiri Sikhs don’t want Azadi, Bali added.
