The launch of the beautification project ‘Marathi Film Katta’ and the naming of Ramesh Deo Marg after late actor Ramesh Deo was done by Culture Minister Ashish Shelar in Versova, Andheri West on Friday.

On this occasion, late actor Ramesh Deo’s son Ajinkya Deo, BJP MLA Amit Satam, BJP General Secretary (Andheri West) Rohan Rathod and renowned artists from the Marathi film industry were present.

Expressing his feelings on this occasion, Shelar said that actor Ramesh Deo played a very important role in the Marathi and Hindi film industry and that this was a moment of pride for all of Maharashtra and art lovers. He also said that on the occasion of ‘Marathi Film Katta’, the notable members of the Marathi film industry were being honoured, adding that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ efforts to get Marathi the status of a classical language (In October last year) was a moment of great pride.

Speaking on the occasion, Ajinkya said, “Today is a day of fulfilment of dreams and happiness for the entire Deo family. I thank everyone present here today for the love they have for Baba.” Director Abhinay Deo (also Ramesh’s son), was also present at the occasion. Senior director Rajdutt, singer Vaishali Samant, Divya Khosla Kumar and dignitaries from various fields were present on this occasion.

Ramesh Deo (January 30, 1929 – February 2, 2022) had worked in more than 285 Hindi films, 190 Marathi films and 30 Marathi dramas during his illustrious career. Ramesh was married to actress Seema Deo (March 27, 1942 – August 24, 2023). He had also produced feature films, TV serials and over 240 ad films. Making his debut with a cameo in the Marathi film Paatlaachi Por (1951), his initial roles saw him playing a villain. In 1962 his first Hindi film released, Rajshree Productions’ Aarti. He notably played supporting roles in films starring Rajesh Khanna, such as Anand and Joroo Ka Ghulam. Ramesh received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 11th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) in January 2013.
