In a decisive move to uphold road safety and cleanliness, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has taken action against a vehicle responsible for discharging cement-mixed water on the roads, leading to hazardous conditions. The hardened concrete sludge caused vehicles to skid, resulting in complaints from commuters and residents. Addressing these concerns, the Anti Encroachment Squad of Zone II, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kailas Gaikwad, swiftly intervened, seizing the offending vehicle and imposing a fine of Rs 30,000 on those responsible.
“The crackdown is part of NMMC’s broader efforts to maintain urban cleanliness and reduce airborne dust pollution. The corporation has intensified its dust mitigation initiatives, including regular road cleaning, dust suppression using mechanized sweeping, and targeted actions against activities that contribute to environmental hazards,” said an officer from NMMC.
As part of these measures, the civic body has deployed advanced road-cleaning vehicles and water-spraying tankers across major roads and high-traffic zones to minimize dust accumulation. Additionally, special instructions have been issued to construction sites to ensure proper handling of debris, restrict the release of cement particles into the air, and mandate the use of protective barricades to contain construction-related pollutants.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde has emphasized that strict action will continue against entities violating cleanliness norms and contributing to road hazards. Authorities have been directed to conduct surprise inspections, enforce penalties, and hold offenders accountable.
