Chandigarh: Days after a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader was shot dead by some assailants near Naraingarh town of Haryana’s Ambala district, a team of Haryana police shot dead one of the accused in an encounter near Mullana town of the district Wednesday evening.

According to police, the deceased was identified as Sagar, a resident of Shahzadpur town of the district, who was one of the shooters who had killed BSP leader Harbilas Rajjumajra last Friday.

Rajjumajra's friend Puneet Dang who was accompanying him was also injured in the attack.

Acting on a tip-off, the police team had raided Sagar's hideout near Mullana around 6 pm on Wednesday but the accused started firing at them in a bid to flee from the spot.

However, he was shot dead in retaliatory firing, while two policemen also suffered bullet injuries, police said adding that they were taken to hospital where their condition was said to be stable.

The police said it has arrested five people till date in connection with the BSP leader's murder case. It may be recalled that gangster Venkat Garh who had taken responsibility for the said murder, has yet to be arrested.
