Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh): A habitual criminal was arrested for placing a foot on a Shivling and shooting a video for a social media site in Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam district, a police confirmed on Thursday.
Additionally, he faced a violent mob at a district hospital after his arrest. While being taken for a medical examination at district hospital, a group of angry people attacked him. Police intervened quickly, escorting him out safely and preventing further harm.
As per reports, the accused has been identified as Imran Sukkha. He allegedly shot an Instagram video showing his foot on a Shivling and uploaded it on January 29 (Wednesday).
Bajrang Dal, VHP lodge complaint
Members of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad reached Ratlam's Station Road police station with a screenshot of the reel and gave it to the police as evidence, demanding immediate action.
They alleged that the accused had deliberately insulted the Hindu deity and was last located at the polyground.
Video viral on social media
As the video became viral on social media and sparked outrage, police tracked him down and arrested him.
The video caused massive outrage among the Hindu community, along with the netizens, who demanded stern punishment against the accused.
Ratlam police have also revealed that Imran is a habitual criminal and many criminal cases have been registered against him in the past with Manak Chowk and Station Road police stations.
Imran had been released from jail only a few days prior to the incident.
