Trainers, owners, and, most importantly, spectators are thrilled to welcome five overseas riders for this edition of the HPSL Indian Derby, set to take place at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse on Sunday.

World-class jockeys Oisin Murphy, David Allan, Tom Marquand, Christophe Lemaire, and William Lee will showcase their talent, adding an exciting international flair to the event. Racegoers will have the chance to win big, while Indian riders will gain valuable experience competing against top-tier global talent.

“It will be a challenge of a different kind for our own jockeys, and it’s great to see world-class riders here after such a long time,” said former jockey-turned-trainer Mallesh Narredu.

“Just waiting for the movement and I have never seen five overseas riders,” said Shailesh Gaikwad a Mumbai spectator who have never missed the Derby for over ten years

Leading the international cavalry is Irish sensation Oisin Murphy, who reunites with Santissimo after their spectacular victory in the Indian 2000 Guineas. But he won’t have it easy—standing in his way are some of Europe’s finest jockeys, each determined to leave their mark on this grand stage.

Joining Murphy are:

Tom Marquand (UK) – A tactical genius, expected to take the reins of Odysseus

Christophe Lemaire (France) – The French maestro, guiding Psychic Star

David Allan (England) – A seasoned Derby specialist, riding Golden Thunder

Billy James (Ireland) – The dark horse of the group, paired with African Gold

Beyond the star-studded jockey lineup, the Derby field itself is brimming with elite contenders, featuring nearly all regional Derby winners.

Expect a fierce battle among African Gold, Duke of Tuscany, Psychic Star, Ranquelino, and Regina Memorabilis, each boasting championship credentials.
