US Department of State on Wednesday (January 29) issued a strongly worded statement and justified its suspension of all foreign US aid saying that it was 'blocking woke programs'. The latest statement is in line with US President Donald Trump administration's stance of cutting expenditure deemed 'unnecessary'. Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is also serving in the US government as head of Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Through its statement, the US Department of State has warned that no country in the world should feel 'entitled' of US aid.

"Americans are a hardworking and generous people, who have sacrificed their blood and treasure to help their fellow man across the globe. But no foreign nation is entitled to those benefits, and no foreign aid program is above scrutiny...," says the statement at the very outset.

The US has already declared a 90-day halt on all foreign aid.

"...Every dollar we spend, every program we fund, and every policy we pursue must make America safer, stronger, and more prosperous. And that is exactly what we are doing right now – prioritizing America’s core national interests one dollar at a time...," the statement goes on.

The State Department further says that that the United States was spending USD 40 billion in foreign aid each year.

It said that some of the initiatives US taxpayers were funding were providing "condoms (and other contraceptive services) in Gaza, climate justice marketing services in Gabon, clean energy programs for women in Fiji, support for gender development programs, family planning throughout Latin America, sex education and pro-abortion programs for young girls globally, and much more".

According to the state department under Trump administration, "These types of programs do not make America stronger, safer, or more prosperous."

"We are blocking woke programs. And we are exposing activities that run contrary to our national interests," it said.

Ending 'wokeness' from US government and government policies has become something of a buzzword in the Trump administration which is just completing 10 days in power. Elon Musk himself has spoken about ending 'wokeness', with the word roughly translating to liberal policies and liberal values that make the US involve itself in world matters.
