Indore (Madhya Pradesh): "Taking regular breaks while using computers and mobile phones can help protect eyesight,” said Dr Mahesh Garg, president of Indore Divisional Ophthalmological Society.
Addressing a conference on eye care, he highlighted the importance of a balanced diet rich in leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, nuts, seeds, and dairy products for eye health. Exposure to morning sunlight also aids vision by providing vitamin D.
Dr Garg was speaking at the launch of a public awareness campaign on eye care at Indore Press Club, marking 50 years of the society.
As part of the initiative, 100 lectures will be held across schools, IT firms, and factories to educate people on eye health.
During the event, Dr Mahesh Somani and Dr Anshu Khare shared eye care tips and discussed the impact of prolonged screen time. Senior ophthalmologist Dr Rajiv Chaudhary addressed queries, including those on eye cancer.
Indore Press Club president Arvind Tiwari mentioned the importance of preventive measures in tackling diseases, while former health director Dr Sharad Pandit praised the initiative. The event was attended by several doctors, journalists, and dignitaries, with contributions from Dr Vandana Telgote, Dr Surabhi Gupta, Dr Shweta Walia, Dr Meeta Joshi and others.
