Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A tour and travel agency owner duped over a dozen people on pretext of sending them on Umra, the pilgrimage to Mecca. Jehangirabad police have registered a case on Wednesday against the tour agency owner on complaint of one of the victims who has been duped of Rs 7.29 lakh.
According to reports, Aishbag resident Shahabuddin, in his complaint said Mohd Ayub Khan ran a tour and travel agency in Jehangirabad. Khan assured him of sending him and his kin on pilgrimage to Mecca.
He took Rs 5.49 lakh from Shahabuddin for sending seven members of his family on Umra and Rs 1.80 lakh for changing the currency into Riyal (currency of KSA). Khan promised to send the family to Mecca on January 22 but later said that the date of flight changed to January 27.
Shahabuddin claimed that he found the office of the agency locked when he reached there on the due date. Shahabuddin and some other persons who have also given money to Khan for going on Umra went to his home but found it locked.
They then reached Jehangirabad police station and made a complaint against Khan. Jehnagirabad police station incharge Ashutosh Upadhyay said many people came forward with similar complaint against tour and travel agency. An FIR has been registered against the agency owner. Other complaints will be included in the investigation.
Investigations were underway to trace accused and identify his partners and other persons who were running the agency, TI added.
