A 23-year-old man allegedly shot himself dead at his residence in Bhandup on Friday morning. The incident occurred around 6am when the deceased, Sahil Qureshi, was alone on the ground floor of the house, while his parents were on the first floor.
Before taking the drastic step, Qureshi recorded a video on his phone in which he said that he was feeling depressed, said the police. Upon hearing the gunshot, Qureshi's parents rushed downstairs to find him lying in a pool of blood.
According to the officials, the firearm used in the incident was locally-made and illegally obtained. The deceased got married two years ago and her wife was at her parents' house at the time of the incident. His father runs a chicken shop in the same area and he used to assist him in his business, said the officials.
An accidental death report has been filed and there is no indication of foul play as of now. An investigation is underway to ascertain what drove Qureshi toward the extreme step. Action will be taken against the person/s who provided the weapon, said the officials.
