Even as the controversy over the arrest of Bangladeshi national Shariful Islam for the alleged knife attack on actor Saif Ali Khan was ebbing, a fresh row has started regarding his conduct and that of his family early on January 16 morning.
The report of Lilavati Hospital administration to Bandra police has opened a big can of worms with more questions being raised with regard to the attack. In all medico-legal cases the hospital concerned is required to send a report to the police station concerned.
According to the report sent by the hospital's Dr Bhargavi Patil to the Bandra police dated January 16 Saif was brought to the hospital by his friend Afsar Zaidi t at 4. 11 p.m. It obviously can't be PM since the stabbing took place around 2 a.m. so it must be 4.11. a.m. But the mistake made by Dr Patil is strange. If indeed he was admitted at 4.11 a.m. it means that for about two hours after being stabbed six times Saif was at home. The question is what was he doing for two hours even as he was bleeding from the wounds?
Hospital officials stated on January 16 that a 2.5" long portion of the knife had got lodged near Saif's spine. If this was the case, what was he doing for two hours with a piece of knife stuck near his spine? The bleeding must have been heavy and even life threatening. It is odd that instead of prioritising emergency medical treatment Saif chose to be at home with his wife Kareena and family.
Earlier it was claimed that Saif was rushed to the hospital by a man in an autorickshaw. The autorickshaw driver had confirmed that he had ferried Saif who was accompanied by an adult male and a child. The child apparently was Taimur, the actor's child. In fact, many expressed shock as to how Kareena let her child accompany a bleeding father to the hospital rather than herself going along with him. It is said at that time she was not in a condition to go to the hospital.
It was earlier believed that the man who accompanied Saif in the autorickshaw was Ibrahim, the actor's son by his first wife, who lived nearby. But now the hospital is claiming that Afsar Zaidi, a friend of Saif, had accompanied the actor. There is no mention of Taimur. The FPJ sent a set of six questions to Saif. But he did not respond.
The police are further complicating the situation by being niggardly in releasing facts of the case. It is not clear if they are under pressure from higher ups or they are being plain incompetent.
