Manoj Tiwary and Gautam Gambhir's long-standing feud has resurfaced, on social media. Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary, in several interviews, has criticized Gautam Gambhir, and many are curious about the origins of their conflict.
Recently Manoj Tiwari launched a scathing attack on Gambhir, calling him a "hypocrite" and accusing him of favoritism. He said: “Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite."
In an interview with Lallantop, Tiwary revealed their fallout incident back during in 2013 IPL season and how it escalated in the 2015 Ranji Trophy match.
Tiwary shared the incident during an IPL match in 2013, he had a heated argument with Gambhir, who was then his captain at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Tiwary's batting position in the team kept being lowered, and he felt this affected his chances of securing a permanent spot in the Indian national team.
"He was already angry because I had an argument with him earlier during my time with KKR. Back then, my batting order kept getting pushed down, and my place in the Indian team wasn't secure. I was still in the reckoning and mostly got opportunities in friendly matches against touring teams.
In one such match against Australia, I was the highest scorer with 129 runs, while he scored 105 runs. Even during the Delhi vs Bengal match, he lost his temper. After the innings ended, we had to go out to field. While I was applying sunscreen, he suddenly snapped at me and shouted, "What are you doing? Hurry up and get down to the field!"
"As soon as I took the leg guard. They were on the slip. From the slip he started to abuse. A curse that cannot be told. Abused with the words using mother & daughter.I never took. Still, I controlled my temper and said why are you insulting brother Gauti. Scolding him, he said, meet in the evening.
I will kill you. Then I said in the evening why kill now. Come on then he can hardly raise his hand. Then the umpire intervened."
Recalling a specific incident, Tiwary said that during a match against Australia, he scored 129 runs, while Gambhir managed 105 runs. Despite his performance, Gambhir reportedly argued with him again.
Tiwary recalled that after the innings, when he was applying sunscreen before going back to field, Gambhir abruptly snapped at him, asking him to hurry up.
After that disagreement, I was quite upset. During a match at Eden Gardens, as soon as the innings ended, I went to the washroom. He followed me there and started saying, "Your attitude won't work. I'll make sure you never get to play again."
IPL feud worsened during a match at Eden Gardens. Tiwary stated that after the innings, he went to the washroom, and Gambhir followed him, criticizing his attitude and threatening his place in the team.
Tiwary, infuriated, confronted him, but the situation was diffused when Wasim Akram intervened. Without Akram, Tiwary said the conflict could have escalated into a physical altercation.
He was a senior player, and I respected him, but I lost my temper at this. I told him, "Gauti bhai, this won't work." Just then, Wasim Akram intervened and calmed things down. Otherwise, it could have escalated into a physical fight that day.
In simple terms, the rivalry seems to stem from professional disagreements, ego clashes, and a series of heated exchanges that left both players holding grudges.
