With Trump 2.0 already underway, the political world is bracing for a certain unpredictability. But that this would spread to other spheres is something not everyone imagined. Instagram users in the US including some celebrities are complaining that they are not able to unfollow Trump, Vice President JD Vance and First Lady Melania Trump, CNN reported. Demi Lovato and Gracie Abrams have said that Instagram-owner Meta was not letting them unfollow.
CNN reported that singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams said in her Instagram story that even when she unfollowed '@vp' and '@potus' handles, the platform kept on making her account refollow them. Abrams reportedly said that she unfollowed the handles three times but couldn't.
"How curious!" Abrams wrote as quoted by CNN. "Had to block them in order to make sure I am nowhere near that."
Demi Lovato had a similar experience. Lovato wrote in her Instagram story that she unfollowed Trump twice, but was not able to keep things that
"I have unfollowed this guy twice today," Lovato said as quoted by CNN.
Meta has denied that it was forcing people to follow Trump or Vice-President Vance. It told CNN that accounts run by the president, vice president and First Lady change as governments change.
"People were not made to automatically follow any of the official Facebook or Instagram accounts for the President, Vice President or First Lady," said Andy Stone as quoted by CNN.
"This is the same procedure we followed during the last presidential transition...It may take some time for follow and unfollow requests to go through as these accounts change hands," he added.
