“The incidents of road accidents have increased over the past few years. Several people have died and many have become disabled due to accidents. Around 78% of road accidents occur due to human errors. If traffic norms are followed scrupulously and the small things are taken into account while riding, accidents can be averted,” opined Shrikant Mundada, the director and CEO of Metalman Auto Ltd.
He was speaking during the conclusion of National Road Safety Week held in the Waluj industrial area on Wednesday. A vehicle rally, along with free guidance and helmet distribution, was organized on the occasion. Industrial Safety and Health Deputy Director Pramod Surashe, Waluj Traffic Branch PI Sachin Ingole, Vijay Salve, Anilkumar Dahale, Krushnakumar Bijemwar, Prakash Ekhande, Vitthal Ghodke, Hemant Shrivastav, Dr. Rahul Jadhav, V.M. Bokare, G.B. Pachwane, and others were present.
Mundada further said that 4.08 lakh road accidents were reported in 2023, an increase of 20% compared to 2022. The data for 2024 is still being compiled, so the updated figures were not yet available. "Life is precious and everyone should preserve it. Accidents can be averted by taking simple precautions on the road."
The vehicle rally to create awareness about road safety started from Metalman Company and passed through Midas Care, Johnson and Johnson, Excellent Envoro and Research Centre, Vaishnodevi Mandir, More Chowk, Waluj Police Station, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Ambedkar Chowk, FDC Corner, and returned to Metalman Company. Free helmets were distributed to the workers on the occasion.
