Team India batters failed to leave a mark on the opening day of the ongoing Ranji Trophy matches. Captain Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant struggled to make an impact as the time for the Champions Trophy nears. However, Ravindra Jadeja bowled a brilliant spell to bag fifer on his comeback domestic comeback for Saurashtra against Delhi.

No show by Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal on Ranji Comeback

Rohit Sharma’s much-anticipated return to domestic cricket turned into disappointment. Opening alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit managed just 3 runs, while Jaiswal fell for a mere 5. Shreyas Iyer who was recently picked dup for Champions Trophy could only managed to score 11 runs before gifting away his wicket.

Pant disappoints but Ravindra Jadeja shines on Domestic comeback

Rishabh Pant’s return to the Ranji Trophy after six years ended in similar dismay. Representing Delhi in their match against Saurashtra, the star wicketkeeper-batter managed only a solitary run before being dismissed.

For Ravindra Jadeja, the domestic comeback was a memorable one as he picked up a fifer to help Saurashtara bundle out Delhi for just 188 runs. The all-rounder finished with figures of 5/66

Gill fails to shine for Punjab

Rising star Shubman Gill failed to leave a mark while playing for Punjab against Karnataka at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium. Gill was dismissed for just 4 runs by Abhilash Shetty as Punjab were bowled out for 55 runsin their first innings.

Can Indian batters find form in Ranji trophy?

One extremely concerning thing is that India’s batting lineup has been going through a very tough time and batters need to regain their form ahead of Champions Trophy 2025 which is scheduled to start in February 2025. The champions trophy is set to begin on 19 February in Karachi with the final on 9 March.

After failure in the first innings team India players will look to turn things around the second opportunity and try and get some form before heading for the ICC's marquee event
