Mumbai: Senior Advocate Devang Vyas resigned on Wednesday as the Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of the Gujarat High Court and the Bombay High Court. Vyas, 48, is based in Mumbai and has served as ASG for 12 years.

He initially served as the ASG for the Gujarat High Court and assumed the post at the Bombay High Court in July 2023. His appointment to the Bombay High Court was initially temporary, pending the appointment of a regular ASG. However, his tenure was repeatedly extended, requiring him to manage responsibilities across various benches of both high courts.

Vyas succeeded Anil Singh, who had held the position for nine years and represented the Central Government in the Bombay High Court during the tenure of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government.

Vyas also represented central agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), in opposing bail applications of the accused in the Elgar Parishad case. In January 2022, the Gujarat High Court conferred on him the designation of “senior advocate.”
