Mumbai: Kanjurmarg Police and Crime Branch Units 7 and 8 have solved the murder of Rajesh Sarvan (41), whose body was discovered near the Kanjurmarg Metro car shed on Sunday, January 19. Three accused, including the victim’s cousin Vijay Sarvan, and contract killers Rohit Chandaliya (29) and Sagar Piwal (30), have been arrested. Investigators revealed that Vijay hired the killers for ₹3 lakh after Rajesh disrupted his sister’s engagement party while intoxicated.

On Sunday, January 19 afternoon, police found Rajesh's body in the bushes near the Eastern Express Highway. The body showed signs of blunt-force trauma inflicted with stones. An Aadhaar card identified the deceased as a resident of Chakala, Andheri East, who had previously worked in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s sanitation department.

Senior Inspector Pandharinath Patil led the Kanjurmarg Police’s investigation, while Crime Branch Units 7 and 8, under Inspectors Atmaji Sawant and Laxmikant Salunkhe, pursued technical leads and informant tips. Vijay was initially detained as a suspect. Further interrogation and evidence pointed to Rohit and Sagar, who were tracked down in Vile Parle.

According to police sources, Rajesh had a severe alcohol addiction, which cost him his job. His behavior frequently caused trouble for his relatives. At Vijay’s sister's engagement on Friday, Rajesh created a drunken commotion, leading to significant humiliation for Vijay. Furious, Vijay plotted his cousin’s murder, hiring Rohit and Sagar for ₹3 lakh. An advance of ₹50,000 was paid, with the remainder promised after the murder.

On Saturday, January 18 night, Rohit and Sagar intoxicated Rajesh further and lured him to the Kanjurmarg Metro car shed area, where they bludgeoned him to death with stones before fleeing. Vijay confessed to the crime during interrogation. Police confirmed that Rohit and Sagar are repeat offenders with multiple serious cases registered against them. The Crime Branch handed over the suspects to Kanjurmarg Police for further proceedings.
