Navi Mumbai: The Coldplay concert in Navi Mumbai brought not only music enthusiasts but also an overwhelming amount of garbage to the city which has been meticulously collected and recycled by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC). The corporation has successfully managed to collect a total of 82.15 tons of garbage over the three-day event, held at DY Patil Stadium in Nerul.

On January 18, 2025, a total of 16.2 tons of garbage was collected, comprising 11.925 tons of wet garbage from three trips and 4.275 tons of dry garbage from one trip of garbage truck. The first day of the concert was on January 18 so the waste collected on January 18 was the waste generated during the preparation of the concert.

The next day, on January 19, the corporation collected the waste generated from the concert till 3 am and collected 12.85 tons of garbage, with 3.15 tons of wet garbage in one trip and 9.7 tons of dry garbage in three trips.

The highest collection was reported on January 20, after the second day of the concert, when 35.28 tons of garbage were gathered. This included 8.93 tons of wet garbage collected in two trips and 26.35 tons of dry garbage collected in seven trips.

From January 21 night to January 22 wee hours, the waste generated from the last day’s concert was collected which was 17.82 tons of garbage, consisting of 9.67 tons of wet garbage from two trips and 8.15 tons of dry garbage from three trips.

In total, 33.675 tons of wet garbage from eight trips and 48.475 tons of dry garbage from fourteen trips were collected during the three day event. The NMMC's dedicated waste management teams worked tirelessly to ensure the cleanliness of the area despite the heavy footfall.

Once the concert concluded at 10 PM, an intensive cleaning operation was immediately set in motion. Led by Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar and Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Solid waste management) Dr. Ajay Gadde, the cleaning team, consisting of over 100 sanitation workers, worked through the night to ensure the area was spotless by 3 AM.

The waste collection was done under the guidance of Deputy Municipal Commissioner Ajay Gadade. “The wet waste which included the left out food particles were taken to our dumping yard. Meanwhile, the dry waste which was collected was mostly plastic bottles and plastic wrapper and covers. These were sent for recycling,” Gadade said.
