Thane: The Bhiwandi Crime Branch arrested a 24-year-old habitual chain snatcher for allegedly being involved in 18 chain snatching cases across Bhiwandi. The arrested individual has been identified as Aanali Sarfaraz Jafari, alias Shetty, 24, a resident of Pirani Pada located in Shantinagar, Bhiwandi.
An official from the Crime Branch said that they received information that a man would come to the Shantinagar area. Thereafter, they laid a trap and apprehended the accused. During the interrogation with him, he revealed that he had committed four chain-snatching cases and three motorcycle theft cases. The police recovered property worth Rs 2,65,000 from his possession.
According to the police, a total of eighteen chain-snatching cases have been registered against him at the Narpoli police station, and he has also been imposed under the provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act. He has been absconding accused for long time.
An official from the crime branch said that a total of 14 other cases, including chain snatching and motorcycle theft, have been registered against him at different police stations.
