Lucknow: On January 21 evening, police officials informed the news agency PTI that two men, one being a self-described journalist, were detained for reportedly posting derogatory remarks on social media regarding the Mahakumbh and Hindu dieties.
The statements caused anger among certain members of the Hindu community, leading officials to announce a warning for enhanced social media surveillance.
Kamran Alvi, a self-proclaimed journalist and has over 9,000 followers on Facebook, was arrested after he uploaded a video regarding the Mahakumbh that upset some members of the Hindu community, as stated by SHO Alok Mani Tripathi.
"The accused was promptly arrested, and a case was registered under section 299 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the BNS Act for insulting religious symbols. He will be presented in the court," Tripathi stated according to PTI report.
In another case, SHO Amit Pratap Singh stated, “Abhishek Kumar, who lives in Boja village near Jaidpur, posted inappropriate comments on social media regarding Hindu gods and the Maha Kumbh.” "A case has been filed and the suspect detained."
