India is reportedly planning to repatriate its citizens living illegally in the United States. This could be seen as an attempt by the Narendra Modi government to collaborate with the Donald Trump administration with the aim to strengthen bilateral relations and avoid any trade war with the US. Around 18,000 Indian migrants with no proper documents are set to be deported, reported Bloomberg. India is hoping that cooperating with the Trump administration in the US could help in protecting the rights of legal immigrants and students.

The report suggests that the actual number could be much more. Notably, during the election campaign, Trump had expressed his intentions to launch a crackdown on illegal migrants. India's cooperation with the newly formed US government is essential for enhancing economic and strategic relations.

On the first day after assuming office, Trump signed an executive order to end birthright citizenship. Notably, the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution grants citizenship to all individuals born in the country.

Trump also shut down, the CBP One app launched by the Biden administration. The mobile app, launched the US Customs and Border Protection, provided around a million illegal immigrants and asylum seekers with legal status, Notably, the app was launched in October 2020 with the aim to help commercial trucking companies schedule cargo inspections at border crossings.

However, in January 2023, the Joe Biden administration expanded its scope and included unauthorised and illegal migrants seeking asylum in the US. Later, the Biden administration made it the only way to seek asylum on the US-Mexico border.

Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, January 20. Trump’s swearing-in ceremony was moved to the Capitol Rotunda due to severe cold weather in Washington DC. The inauguration was attended by billionaires, world leaders, politicians, tech CEOs, and more. JD Vance took the oath as Vice-President.
