The Bhavan’s Photography Society has organised a photography competition and exhibition at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Navi Mumbai Kendra Vashi.
50 odd photos captured the essence of Indian culture and heritage as well as Indian festivals were exhibited at the centre.
The exhibition was conducted on January 19 .
The selection process for the competition began in November 2024 wherein a total of 81 entrants had submitted 461 images for judges to select. Veteran photographers had to select the best photographs under three sections - Indian Architecture and temples, Indian classical dance and music and Indian Festivals.
“The thought behind organising this competition was to promote ancient Indian culture, traditions and festivals through the art of photography. Bharatiya vidya bhavan is a cultural organisation upholding the spirit of Indian heritage, we thought it fit to hold an exhibition reflecting the same and to promote the Indian culture and heritage through its temples, dances, music and Indian festivals. The long drawn process of 8 months finally resulted in this successful exhibition,” said the president of the Bhavan’s Photography society Krishnan Subramanian.
Of the 461 images received, 204 images were about architecture and temples. 97 images depicted the elegance of Indian classical dance and Music. 160 pictures captured the beauty of Indian festivals. For judging the entries, the organisation roped in well-known photographers - Vaibhav Jaguste , Subhash Jirange and Rajendra Waghmare. “ These photographers have more than 20 years of experience. Of the entries received, 52 images were selected to be displayed for the exhibition. There was prize money for the first three places and certificates of merit for three entrants in each section,” said the President.
MD of Saurashtra Cement M. S .Gilotra was the chief guest for the exhibition. Dr. Shanta Belavadi with a doctorate in ancient Indian culture and heritage spoke about the history and formation of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and also significance of this heritage exhibition. She especially mentioned a few of the photographs of the festivals and temple architecture, which were on display are rare and many of the people are not aware that such festivals or temples do exist in our vibrant country.
The winners were announced by the secretary of the society Sagar Mhatre. The prizes were distributed by the Chief Guest, M.N.Ramchandra Chairman of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Navi Mumbai Kendra and B.N.Nayak Vice Chairman of the Kendra.
