Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Ban Ganga slum, which is one of the biggest slums hardly a furlong away from Professor Colony, is a major concern in addition to educational institutes, in shifting of Bhopal Collectorate from Old Secretariat to Professor Colony.
Therefore, people have advised for re-densification at the current site instead of shifting at Professor Colony which is already a low density area in ward no-24.
Besides, the entire plan lacks any road widening scheme because there are number of educational institutes like Centre for Research and Industrial Staff Performance (CRISP), Bhopal Polytechnic College, MLB College, Government School Girls’ Hostel, etc.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in BMC and ward 24 corporator Shabista Zaki said, ‘Shifting Bhopal Collectorate to Professor Colony will create major problem. Slums are already creating problems in Bhopal as administration is facing major challenges to relocate.
Ban Ganga is the biggest slum and educational institutions are also there. So shifting will create problems.’ CRISP senior manager Rajesh Maheshwari said, ‘Already there are many institutes and the biggest slum Ban Ganga is also here in the vicinity of Professor Colony.
Hence, shifting of Bhopal Collectorate to Professor Colony will be a major problem. Bhopal MP Alok Shama has raised the issue advocating re-densification plan at the current site (old secretariat). The government should reconsider its plan of shifting it to Professor Colony as there is already enough space for re-densification.’
