Mumbai: Elderly participants excelled at the Mumbai Marathon, motivating numerous individuals with their stamina and resolve. Their involvement was significant in marathon categories as they were joined by family members and relatives who inspired others to participate in such events. For instance, 71-year-old Paul Padinjarekara, who came from Kochi alongside his friends.

In total, 1,894 older adults participated, with 813 being females. Numerous seniors participated in various categories, such as the 42 km.

Paul Padinjarekara, a 71-year-old from Kochi, began running after retiring from Cochin Port Trust eleven years back. A seasoned marathon runner, affectionately known as Paulettan by his fellow Kerala runners, has completed 162 full marathons, 403 half-marathons, and 161 km on two occasions. Having logged approximately 30,000 km throughout the years, he mentioned that he runs to maintain his fitness.

Niranjan Singh Arora (76) and his wife Sarabjit (65) have been taking part in marathons for 16 years. Swimming for an hour is a part of his routine. "I continue to lead my business," Arora stated.

Arvind Desai (93) arrived from Andheri with his friend, who is also a senior citizen, for their morning walk. He mentioned that he has been walking consistently for the past five years and has participated in marathons. —Vijay V Singh & Rebecca Samervel.
