The iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai celebrated its 50th anniversary with a grand event organized by the Mumbai Cricket Association. The evening was marked by nostalgia, cricketing stories, and a promise from Team India skipper Rohit Sharma that has reignited the hopes of millions of fans.
While addressing the audience present on the special occasion, Rohit said, “It is always a dream to represent India in any ICC tournament. We will embark on another dream when we head to Dubai. I am sure that 140 crore people will be behind us, supporting us every step of the way. We will try our best to do everything possible to bring the trophy back to Wankhede.”
The special event at Wankhede brought together legendary cricketers, including Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and Rohit Sharma, who shared their fond memories and experiences of playing at the iconic ground.
This pledge by Rohit to win the ICC Champions Trophy and bring it back to the place where India has witnessed some of its greatest cricketing moments filled the air with anticipation and pride.
Team India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Before the celebration, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and skipper Rohit Sharma unveiled India’s 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy and the ODI series against England.
Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team, with Shubman Gill serving as vice-captain. Jasprit Bumrah was included in the side despite the injury concerns, while Mohammad Shami and Shreyas Iyer made their comeback to the national team after long absence.
India’s Schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
India will be playing all their matches in Dubai after refusing to travel to Pakistan for the tournament due to political tensions. The Men in Blue begin their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20.
The much-anticipated clash against arch-rivals Pakistan is scheduled to be played on February 23, promising an electrifying encounter. The final group stage match will see India take on New Zealand on March 2.
