Yogita Bhosale-Nikam has been appointed as the Municipal Secretary of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), becoming the first woman to hold this position in the last 75 years.

The Municipal Secretary position had been vacant since the retirement of Sunil Parkhi in August 2020. The recruitment process was delayed due to a lack of qualified candidates who met the necessary educational and professional criteria.

The Deputy Municipal Secretary position was also vacant, prompting the administration to appoint Yogita Bhosale-Nikam to this post. Additionally, the responsibility of the Municipal Secretary was temporarily assigned to Labor Officer Shivaji Daundkar. After his retirement, she was given the additional responsibility as acting Municipal Secretary.

Following her strong performance, Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale officially promoted her to the position of Municipal Secretary.

Nikam-Bhosale hails from Wai Taluka in Satara district. Her appointment is significant as she is the first woman to hold this key administrative role in the history of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

This appointment is expected to bring much-needed stability to the administration and pave the way for continued progress in the city's development.
