Three days have passed since the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, but the accused remains at large. However, the police have questioned over 40 individuals so far, including taking Kareena Kapoor’s statement.
Mumbai Police have retrieved several CCTV footages. However from these five CCTV the police received little clue about the attacker and another individual who closely resembles him.
The first CCTV image, taken on the morning of January 16, shows the accused climbing the stairs from the 6th floor to the 11th floor of Saif Ali Khan’s building.
The second CCTV image, recorded about 56 minutes later, shows the accused coming down the stairs at 2.33 am after the attack. Interestingly, he is wearing shoes in this footage, although he had been barefoot earlier to avoid making noise.
Third CCTV footage, from 7:06 am on January 16, shows the suspect roaming outside Bandra station. Notably, he had changed his shirt between the time of the attack and this footage. While he was wearing a T-shirt during the attack, he is seen wearing a blue half-shirt in the morning.
In the fourth CCTV footage on January 16, at 9:00 am, he seen was spotted buying a headphone at Iqra Mobile Shop near Dadar station, before heading towards Dadar station.
Additionally, the police obtained CCTV footage from January 12, which shows the accused stealing shoes from a window outside a flat in the Versova area at 7:12 pm. This footage, captured three days before the attack on Saif Ali Khan's home, features an individual who closely resembles the suspect in Saif's case. Based on this, the police are further investigating the matter.
Using these five CCTV footages, the Mumbai Police and Crime Branch are attempting to track down the accused. The CCTV trail suggests that after buying the headphones at Dadar, the suspect may have headed to the station and possibly caught a long-distance train to flee Mumbai.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Chhattisgarh has contacted the Mumbai Police, reporting that a person resembling the one seen in the circulating photos was spotted at a railway station in the state. The Mumbai Police have now dispatched a team to Chhattisgarh to investigate whether this individual is the same person or merely a look-alike.
