There is a saying that there is no shortcut to success and it is only the hard work that finally pays off. Sagar Patil, who transitioned from working as a security guard to becoming a Physical Education teacher is all set to embark on a new journey when he takes part in Mumbai Marathon 2025. According to The Times of India report, the 33-year-old will be a pacer (A pacer is an experienced runner who sets a steady pace, encouraging other runners to push their limits) for the Half marathon (21 km)

How did Patil managed to fulfill his Marathon dream?

Becoming professional runner is not an easy thing as it takes years of professional practice. However, Patil’s sheer determination to hone his skills from his hectic work schedule is something that each person can be proud and inspired from.

He worked as a security guard at DSB International School in Breach Candy. During his time at the school, he kept notice of how parents of students were preparing themselves for the Mumbai Marathon. The fitness enthusiast decided to making his dream a reality by approach Kranti Salvi, who was one of the parents. Salvi, a Guinness World Record holder for completing a full marathon in traditional Japanese attire in Canada, became his mentor and guided him into the world of running.

For Patil managing his work and passion for sports was going to be a difficult one. He would catch the first train from his home in Dombivli at 4:20 AM, arriving at school early to practice. His running route often included sprints to Worli dairy or the sea link, covering 8-10 kilometers. Sometimes, he would run towards Marine Lines and back to school, just in time to start his duties.

Patil's journey to becoming Physical teacher

Patil also received support from school teachers, the principal, and the parents of students. After the lockdown, the school offered him a chance to assist the PT teacher.

He said,"There was no way I would miss this opportunity, seizing it eagerly. With the school's support, Patil enrolled in a Physical Education degree program, which was essential for becoming a qualified PT teacher. Patil not only focuses on physical drills but also emphasizes the importance of hard work. He often shares his personal journey with his students to inspire them to strive for their best.
