A woman stole diamond-studded jewellery worth Rs10 lakh and other gold jewellery from a woman passenger who boarded a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus at the Central Bus stand on Monday at around 6am.
Jaya Narayan Kalani, the wife of Narayan Kalani, a cloth trader, was going to Pune to attend the marriage of one of their relatives. She carried diamond-studded jewellery worth Rs10 lakh and other gold jewellery to wear during the ceremony. She went to the Central Bus Stand at around 5.30am on Monday and boarded a bus to Pune. When she checked her luggage after boarding, she found that a small bag containing the jewellery was missing from the luggage. She then called her husband to verify whether she left it at home. When her husband confirmed it was not there, she realised that the bag was stolen at the bus stand. A case was lodged with the Kranti Chowk Police Station. Meanwhile, CCTV footage shows a woman, aged between 40 to 45 years, boarding the bus along with Jaya. She stopped behind the driver’s seat for some time and then got off the bus.
According to the complaint lodged with the Kranti Chowk Police, the stolen articles had three necklaces weighing 3 tolas, earrings and one ring, 3 tolas gold chains and one bangle, a diamond-studded necklace, two bangles’ rings and bracelet, two gems bangles and a French watch.
