Thane: Police officials stated on Tuesday that a 30-year-old man has been arrested in Maharashtra's Badlapur region in Thane district for allegedly murdering an acquaintance who had been harassing his wife, according to news agency PTI.

On January 11, Sukant Shatrugana Parida (29) passed away in the residence of the accused, Naresh Shambu Bhagat (30), who notified the police about the man's death at his home in the Badlapur locality, they stated, as reported by PTI.

The police transferred the body to a state hospital for an autopsy and initially filed a case of unintentional death. While investigating the case, the police pursued various leads and arrested Bhagat on suspicion, stated a police report, according to PTI.

Following thorough questioning, Bhagat confessed the police that the deceased often visited his home and harassed his wife, resulting in disputes between the two men and the couple, as reported by PTI.

Frustrated with Parida's actions, the defendant devised a scheme to get rid of him. On the night of January 10, the suspect invited him to his home, provided him with alcohol, and then supposedly struck his head with a hammer and iron rod, resulting in the man's death, the police stated, as reported by PTI.

The suspects have been apprehended and charged under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), they reported.
