Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal Lok Sabha Member Alok Sharma has opposed the proposed shifting of Bhopal collectorate from old city to New Bhopal stating that there must be well balanced development of all the constituencies in the state capital.
“Earlier, Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) office was shifted from Old City to New Bhopal, thereafter RTO and now there is plan to shift collectorate to Professor Colony (New Bhopal). I will talk to CM Mohan Yadav and request him that the Collector-SP office should not be shifted from Old Bhopal to New Bhopal.”
Around 13 acres in Professors Colony has been marked for the new collectorate building. A seven-storey building will be constructed on eight acres of land at a cost of Rs 412 crore. A plan has also been prepared to translocate a large number of trees. Citizens, urban experts, environment lovers have already come out opposing construction of the new collectorate building in Professors Colony.
A petition was filed in NGT under the banner of Citizen Forum. The tribunal was told that trees will be cut on a large scale. They also brought to their notice that World Heritage Chhota Talab is adjacent to Professors Colony and the proposed new collectorate building will pollute the pond.
