Shardul Fagare (93) and Akshat Joshi (70) slammed fine half-centuries as General Education Academy, Chembur put up a great batting show against Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Vidyalaya in the Giles Shield Super Eight stage match at Police Gymkhana.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, General Education Academy declared their first innings at 300-5 in 75.4 overs, courtesy brilliant knocks from openers Shardul Fagare 93 with 11 fours, Akshat Joshi 70 with 11 fours while number three batter Sparsh Gholap made 66.

The General Education team looked extremely solid as both openers Shardul-Akshat put up a 136-run opening stand, taking the attack back to the opposition. Their plan was simple, to accumulate a massive score on the board and put their opposition on the back foot. Youngster Shardul stood like a rock for his team, earning each run to help his team. Leg spinner Advait Tiwari grabbed (3-70) in 21.4 overs. At the end of day 1, the Babasaheb Ambedkar team were 38-0 in 9 overs.

At Cross Maidan, batting first, RR Education notched up 221-9 in 92 overs at the end of day 1. Samik Nair top scored with 41 off 50 balls, including six fours. Chirayu Shikhare also contributed 38. For Swami Vivekanand, Chinmay Patil snapped up (3-56) in 30 overs, Avadhut Rawool picked (2-58) while Arjun Bora snapped up (2-27).

At High Court Oval Maidan, batting first, Modern English posted a paltry 111 in 43.1 overs against Dnyandeep Seva Mandal Primary School. Rajvardhan Jadhav made 36 before getting out LBW. On the other hand, Lavish Singh and Mohammad Ali picked three wickets a piece. Dnyandeep were unable to recover after they lost quick wickets and faltered early on in their innings. Coming out to chase down their total, Dnyandeep were 80 all out in just 23.3 overs. Virat Yadav top scored with a good half-ton. Off spinner Lakshya Bhor picked (4-10) in just 5 overs while medium pacer Krish Patil got (3-28) in 7 overs at the end of day 1. IES New English Bandra Vs VK Krishna Menon Borivali at Khar Gymkhana did not take place as the ground was allotted for another game, even after the Giles Shield booking of the above game was confirmed. This match will be held later.
