While the issue of drunk underage driving troubled the city police in 2024, the start of the new year seems to be even more troublesome for them, as a 19-year-old without a driving license drove a car at high speed on Tilak Road, directly onto the pavement, and crashed into a shop.

The impact was so huge that the car broke through the shop's shutter, shattering the glass and damaging 28 fridges and laptops inside, resulting in a loss of ₹11.52 lakh. Fortunately, no one was injured as the shop was closed at the time.

Complaint lodged against a youth

The incident occurred at around 3:30 am on Sunday at Maharashtra Electronic shop on Tilak Road. Manmit Singh Harbansingh Chhabra (47), a resident of Vidyasagar Colony, Salisbury Park, filed a complaint at Vishrambaug Police Station. Based on this complaint, the police have registered a case against Shivputra Kamlakar Bel (19), a resident of Kalepadal.

According to police information, Shivputra Bel was driving the car at high speed from Alka Cinema Hall towards S.P College. After crossing Sahitya Parishad Chowk, he attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed. A two-wheeler rider appeared from the opposite direction, and in an attempt to avoid a collision, Bel lost control of the car, which went to the opposite footpath and crashed into the shop's shutter. The force of the crash removed the shutter, broke two glasses, and caused significant damage to the fridges and laptops inside the shop. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Upon receiving the report, Crime Inspector Arun Ghodke and Police Sub-Inspector Swati Bharad from Vishrambaug Police Station visited the scene to gather information. Police Constable Patil is currently investigating the matter.
