Yuvraj Singh's father Yograj Singh has revealed he would have been proud of his son even if he died and had won India the World Cup. Yuvraj Singh was one of the finest all-rounder India had produced. His memorable performance with bat and ball saw India clinched the T20 World cup in 2007 and 2011 ODI World Cup at the iconic Wankhede stadium.
Speaking on Unfiltered by Samdish Podcast Yograj said, “For our country, if Yuvraj Singh had died from cancer and had won India the World Cup, I would have been a proud father. I still am very proud of him. I have told him this over the phone as well. I wanted him to play even when he was spitting blood. I told him, ‘Don’t worry, you won’t die. Win this World Cup for India,'"
Yograj, who played one Test and six ODIs for India, still feels that Yuvraj Singh, a two-time World Cup winner, failed to reach his true potential. He said, “Yuvraj Singh, if he had worked even 10 percent like his father, he would have become a great cricketer,”
Yuvraj Singh's performance for India
Post the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj Singh was diagnosed with cancer after which his India career never took off. Yuvraj represented India in 40 Tests, 304 ODIs, and 58 T20Is before announcing his retirement in 2019. The left-hander had the world under feet with remarkable performance during the 2007 T20 World Cup.
He is still remembered for smashing six sixes in an over to England pacer Stuart Broad. During the 2011 World Cup at home, Yuvraj scored 362 runs at an average of 90.50 and a strike-rate of 86.19
Yograj Singh reveals wanting to shoot Kapil Dev
Besides talking about his son, Yograj Singh also made explosive remark of once wanting to shoot Kapil Dev. He said, “My wife (Yuvi’s mother) wanted me to ask Kapil questions. I told her that I would teach this bloody man a lesson. I took my pistol out, I went to Kapil’s house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I abused him a dozen times. I told him because of you I have lost a friend and what you have done, you will pay for it. “I told him, ‘I want to put a bullet through your head, but I am not doing it because you have a very pious mother, who is standing here.’ I told Shabnam, ‘Let’s go.’
